Dr Brigitta Stone-Johnson (Brigs) is an artist, architect and researcher based in Johannesburg, and a lecturer at the Wits School of Architecture and Planning since 2016.
Her practice considers the post-mining city as a material ecology, working in cyanotype and material research to counter-narrate extraction, colonialism and the impacts of the Anthropocene. Her PhD, “Wayfaring Stone”, developed interdisciplinary practice-led research between fine art and architecture — learning to think with stone as vibrant matter in the post-extractive urban terrains of the Witwatersrand ridge line.
