Sibusiso Mthekwa Masina was born and raised on the East Rand, in a household led by two God-fearing and God-loving parents who serve the church. Spirituality and his relationship with God have shaped his life and deeply influence his creativity. Drawing from the age of 2, his skills evolved from Dragon Ball Z sketches to portraits of footballers, to his own comic books, and eventually to expressing thought and feeling through paint in high school — a practice that became both obsession and a way to navigate life.
“To me art is short for ‘ARTiculation of thought and feeling.’ Each artwork tells a story, and each story has traces of life, traces of myself, and traces of God throughout — you just have to look for them. A story can be told with and without figures; even in apparent emptiness, life — and more importantly, God — is always present. The paintbrush allows me to translate that presence into imagery so others can feel it.”
